Yesterday, we reported that Disney is moving forward with yet another live-action remake of a classic animated film. This time, the studio is tackling “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” However, it doesn’t appear that the Mouse House is as much of a remake-machine as we first thought. According to a person working on the live-action “Pinocchio,” that live-action adaptation seems to have hit a major, major speed bump.

This is a highway trafficked by Raymond Chandler and James Ellroy. Where the women are imperiled, the men are corrupt, and not even all the stars of Hollywood can […]

Netflix Unveils ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Choice Results, Including Least-Picked Ending

The first choice viewers must make in Netflix’s “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” is whether the protagonist, Stefan (Fionn Whitehead), should eat Frosties or Sugar Puffs for breakfast. As it turns out, a lot of people prefer Frosties. Netflix has taken to its various social media accounts to reveal some of the choices “Bandersnatch” viewers have been making since the choose-your-own-adventure film debuted December 28, and 60% of all viewers had Stefan eat Frosties instead of Sugar Puffs.

As previously reported, “Bandersnatch” contains five different endings, all of them varying in different tones. “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker said he intended for each “Bandersnatch” ending to feel different, with some being funny and others being more brutal. Which “Bandersnatch” ending was the least viewed? Netflix says it was the most emotional of the five options, in which Stefan goes on the train with his mother.

Berlin: Edko Films Picks up Zhang Yimou’s ‘One Second’

Hong Kong studio Edko Films has picked up international rights to “One Second,” the newest movie by top Chinese director Zhang Yimou. The film will have its world premiere in competition in Berlin, it was announced this week.

“One Second” is pitched as Zhang’s personal love letter to cinema, and as a return to his auteur roots after a string of big-budget films including “The Great Wall,” and the recent “Shadow.” The story evolves from the moment when an enigmatic film reel spawns an unlikely friendship between a fugitive and a homeless girl.

The film stars Zhang Yi (“Operation Red Sea”) and Fan Wei (“I Am Not Madame Bovary”). It was shot in remote mountainous locations in mid-summer last year, between the end of production on “Shadow” and that film’s triumphant Venice and Toronto outings.

Shadow” was produced by Perfect Village, a joint venture between Chinese games to

Claudia Boderke, Lars Mering Talk Sf Studios ‘The New Nurses,’

The inevitable comparison for Sf Studios’ “The New Nurses,” at least from a Danish broadcast perspective, is “Something’s Rockin,’” another 2018 TV 2 Charlie show which was retro but forward-looking. “Something’s Rockin’” described the birth of an independent radio with culture in Denmark.

Produced by Sf Studios’ Senia Dremstrup (“Norskov”), “The New Nurses” talks cleverly about gender equality by flipping the focus to men battling a conservative establishment to become Denmark’s first nurses. This will make the lack of equality seem even more arcane to even more people.

In another reset, reverting classic telenovela, you have a working class man in love with an upper-class girl. Erik, a soldier who fought in WWII, attempts to sign up for Denmark’s first nursing school which accepts male nurses. A working class lad without even the money to pay for the basic text books, he faces a battle with nit only entrenched authorities at the hospital,

Salvador Dalí: In Search of Immortality review – portrait of a gloriously eccentric artist

David Pujol’s documentary includes some bizarre moments, including Dalí’s seduction of his wife-to-be with a paste made of goat excrement and fish glue

Produced by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, this documentary about the relentlessly eccentric Spanish painter benefits – as you would hope it would – from plentiful archive access and a scholarly level of appreciation. So on the one hand we get some utterly bizarre footage of Dalí explaining how he seduced his wife-to-be Gala with a paste made of goat excrement and fish glue (Gala nodding quizzically alongside); and on the other a tight little knot of Dalí connoisseurs discussing the artist with each other while studiously avoiding the camera. The latter certainly elevates the film, but also hampers it; it’s pretty dry stuff compared with the slick Exhibition on Screen films we have become used to in cinemas. Some awkward translations and some rough sound edits are also a little off-putting.
